About the Role We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and scale engineering teams supporting digital platforms in the News & Media domain. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in content management systems, subscription and paywall platforms, cloud-native architectures, and third-party integrations, while effectively managing stakeholders and offshore delivery teams. This role requires strong leadership experience, a strategic mindset, and hands-on technical understanding of modern media technology stacks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and strategic leadership across multiple engineering teams delivering news and media digital products
Own architecture, delivery, and scalability of media platforms including CMS, subscription, authentication, and analytics systems
Lead integration of third-party platforms across content, subscription, analytics, and marketing ecosystems
Partner with product, business, and editorial stakeholders to align technology roadmaps with business goals
Manage and mentor offshore engineering teams, ensuring quality, velocity, and delivery predictability
Drive best practices in engineering governance, security, performance, and reliability
Oversee cloud-based deployments across AWS and/or Azure environments
Ensure high availability and performance of consumer-facing platforms serving large audiences
Required Experience & Qualifications
15–20 years of overall software engineering experience
Last 4–5 years in a Director of Engineering or equivalent senior leadership role
6–7+ years of experience in the News & Media domain (newspapers, digital media, publishing platforms, etc.)
Strong experience with Arc XP (CMS / Content Management Platform) and media-centric systems
Proven experience building and integrating subscription, paywall, and authentication platforms
Hands-on experience with Node.js and modern backend services
Strong exposure to AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms
Extensive experience with third-party integrations and vendor platforms
Demonstrated ability to manage senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
Prior experience leading and scaling offshore delivery teams
